An outstanding career spanning design, leadership, and academia
Early Career (1983-1995)
Dr. Kim began his career as an automotive designer, studying car design in Germany in 1983. After graduating in industrial machinery and product design (Gestaltung), he worked as a senior designer and manager at Panther Sports Car in the UK, and later joined Ssangyong Motor where he created numerous SUVs, commercial vehicles, and concept cars as a chief designer.
Hyundai Motor Group (1995-2007)
Dr. Kim is an expert in automotive development who held responsibilities for brand strategy and design differentiation at Hyundai Precision Industry (now Mobis) and Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group's Namyang Research Center design institute, headquarters marketing division, and the corporate strategy coordination office, where he led global initiatives.
Executive Leadership (2007-2009)
Dr. Kim served as CEO of Innocean, Hyundai-Kia Group's leading marketing communications company, from 2007 to March 2009, and became President of Hyundai Motor Group in 2008.
Academic Contributions
Dr. Kim has built an impressive academic career, teaching design and marketing at various universities in Germany and Korea since 1995. He was a visiting professor at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden (2004-2005), and served as an adjunct professor at Seoul National University, Kookmin University, Chung-Ang University, and Kyung Hee University until 2016.
